How to Connect Amazon Alexa to Smart Home Devices

Process 1: Connecting Alexa with smart devices

After downloading Amazon Alexa App, do the following:

  1. Tap the menu
  2. Tap Smart Home
  3. Tap Enable Skills
  4. Type “SmartThings” in the search field
  5. Tap to connect relevant “SmartThing”
  6. Tap “Enable” for SmartThings
  7. Enter email address and tap “Next”
  8. Enter your password and tap “Sign in”
  9. Select the location of your SmartThing from the menu
  10. Tap “Authorize”

Note: A successful connection displays the success message upon closing it.

Process 2: Discovering SmartThings with Alexa

The above process has enabled Amazon Alexa to access the nearby SmartThings devices and routines. The following steps will allow Alexa to locate the devices and routines i.e. “discover”

  1. Tap “Discover Devices”
  2. Found devices and routines are displayed

Process 3: Inability to discover devices

Open the Alexa app and do the following:

  1. Tap the menu
  2. Tap “Smart Home”
  3. Tap “Devices”
  4. Tap “Discover” at the bottom of your menu
  5. Wait for the results

Note: The search process takes around 20 seconds at most and a progress bar on the app indicates search status.
