Intel i9-14900K Outpaces Predecessor by 6% in Leaked Geekbench 6 Test
We are almost two weeks away from Intel’s upcoming Innovation Event. The company is expected to unveil its Raptor Lake Refresh offerings at the event. We also hope to see a detailed overview regarding Meteor Lake and a possible release date. Today, the upcoming flagship, the i9-14900K has been spotted in Geekbench.
i9-14900K Spotted in Geekbench
The test bench features the BIOSTAR Z790A-Silver motherboard coupled with the i9-14900K. The i9-14900K packs 24 cores and 32 threads, with slightly faster clock speeds. It is important to note that we have already seen this CPU in action where it attains a similar lead over the i9-13900K. More on that here.
The CPU was clocked at 5.7GHz, almost 300MHz lower than what it’s rated for. The 14900K has a TVB of 6GHz much like the i9-13900KS. In terms of the memory, we see 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory. The slower speeds can hamper performance significantly, so keep that in mind.
If we look at the performance metrics, the i9-14900K scores 3140 points (Single Core) and 19134 points (Multi Core) respectively. Since this benchmark was conducted using Geekbench 6, we cannot make an apples-to-apples comparison against tests done on Geekbench 5.
Nonetheless, the i9-14900K exhibits a strong lead against its Raptor Lake brethren. The single-core lead is as high as 6% and increases to 7% against the Ryzen 9 7950X. What’s more is that it is around 2% faster than the i9-13900KS (150W), which is somewhat in line with our projections.
The multi-core performance is lackluster, with the 14900K falling short of not just the 13900KS but the 13900K as well. This can be credited to the slower memory or the early engineering state of the CPU. Again, we have to mention that the PC Power Plan was set to ‘Balanced’ rather than ‘High Performance’.
Release Date
Intel will announce the 14th Generation of Core CPUs at its forthcoming Innovation Event. In accordance with previous launches, Intel will only launch the K-SKUs with the rest of the family planned for CES 2024.
