Larian Studios Releases First Major Patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, Addressing Over 1000 Issues and Bugs

Larian Studios has already released around 4 hotfixes for Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PC platform since its release on 3rd August 2023. However, today the developers have finally released the first major patch of the game. Spoiler alert: it’s as massive as the game itself.

Larian Studios has released Patch #1 for Baldur’s Gate 3, addressing over 1000 issues and bugs in the game. Yes, 1000, squashing numerous bugs across various categories and optimizing the overall balance and flow of the game to give players a smoother experience.

The patch notes are so extensive that the word limit on Steam ran out before the developers could list all the changes made with the first patch of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PC. Still, if you’re interested, you can go through the complete patch notes here. (If you’re one of the first 368 players who beat the game in the first weekend of its release, then I guess you have the patience and time to study these patch notes yourself. Good luck!)

Bladur’s Gate 3 Is A Huge Success For Larian Studios

Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a massive critical and commercial success. While you might already know that Baldur’s Gate 3 has become the highest-rated PC game of all time according to the review aggregator site Metacritic (well, you know now if you didn’t before), I’ll list some of its remarkable commercial successes.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was finally released on 3rd August 2023, breaking the chains of early access after 2 long years. Within only 2 weeks of its release, it peaked at over 875K concurrent players on Steam (the most popular gaming client on the PC platform), and it topped the Steam Sales charts for two whole weeks consecutively after its release, leaving the popular and highly anticipated upcoming RPG Starfield behind.

Not only that but even before it was released globally, Baldur’s Gate 3 had already sold 2.5 million copies when it was in early access. This shows how much fans expected from the game and believed that it would fulfill their expectations (and obviously they wanted to play the game in early access, hence bought a copy, but it’s still impressive how many of them believed in the ambitions of the devs).

Players Invested Over 100 Million Hours in Baldur’s Gate 3 in Its Release Week

Larian Studios, in their #23 Community Update on Steam, revealed some really interesting numbers regarding the time players were investing in Baldur’s Gate 3 in its release week. According to Larian, collectively players have spent over 10,000,000 (100 million) hours, or 1225 years, in the game.

It’s mind-boggling to comprehend numbers like this, but it’s also understandable when you take into consideration the scale of Baldur’s Gate 3, with 100 hours of playable content and thousands of ending variations.

Larian Studios listed some other facts about player engagement and choices made by the players in the first week of the game’s release, so if you want to read those as well, you can head over to their Steam community post here.

After the major first patch of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian is not stopping here and has already announced that the second patch for the game is around the corner. This shows that the developers are fully committed to the players’ experience and continuously giving their best to enhance what they’ve already achieved.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on September 6, 2023, for PlayStation 5. An Xbox Series X|S version of the game is also in the works, but there is no release date yet.
