Reddit User Apparently Leaks Pixel 8 Pro Prototype Images Online

The Pixel 8 series’ launch is right around the corner, and over the past few months, we have seen multiple rumors, leaks, renders for the phone, but no one was sure if any of that was actually true, without a concrete piece of evidence to back it up.

Well, earlier today, we have had a major leak where a user has shared pictures of the Pixel 8 Pro on Reddit, but the images were (obviously) removed within the first 30 minutes of upload. Thankfully, till then, a lot of people had a chance to take a proper look at the phone.

As for the source of this phone, it was apparently issued to the user by Google’s device team for testing purposes.

He has uploaded two photos, one from the front, and other from the back, giving us our first look at the phone. Now, I don’t know how much of the phone was allowed to be showcased online according to the NDA, but these images alone seem to confirm a lot of the details. Take a look at these pictures down below:

Pixel 8 Pro | Reddit

The first image shows the phone’s fastboot screen, which reveals, and confirms the codename “husky” and 12GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM, along with 128GB of storage. It’s great that unlike some of the other manufacturers, Google has stuck with 128G, and not 256 to justify the pricing (definitely not pointing out Samsung here!).

The bootloader also mentions the codename “ripcurrent,” which is thought to be related to the chipset inside the phone, the Tensor G3.

The back of the phone shows a triple-lens camera system, and Google’s signature camera visor. Other than that, we can see a “FOR TEST/EVALUATION ONLY” sticker. Well, that message was certainly ignored…

From rumors, and some credible sources, we know that the camera system is reportedly made up of a 50MP main sensor, a 64MP ultrawide sensor, and a 5x telephoto lens. The images also show a new temperature sensor underneath the flash.

All in all, the prototype looks very similar to leaked renders and images that have been circulating online (as can be seen in the cover image for this article too). The only major difference is the flat display, which Google has introduced for the first time in its ‘Pro’ lineup of phones.

Alongside the Pixel 8 Pro, the normal the Pixel 8 will also be released later this year. Both phones are expected to be powered by the new Tensor G3 chip, which is said to be a significant upgrade over the Tensor G2 chip found in the Pixel 7 series.

We’ll have to wait until later this year to learn more about the Pixel 8 Pro, but based on these leaked images, it looks like it could be a major upgrade over the Pixel 7 Pro. This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
