Google Pixel Fold Could Feature An Adaptive 120Hz Display with 1200-nits of Peak Brightness
And Great Cameras Too!
We know Google is preparing for a Pixel foldable from earlier leaks, which we also covered here. While Google hasn’t officially announced anything, according to well-known display analyst and tipster Ross Young, we could see a release as soon as 2023.
Recently, 91Mobiles also unearthed a few display specifications of the upcoming Pixel Fold. Google’s first folding device will sport Samsung made displays, both on the inside and outside. The internal display will apparently feature a peak brightness of 1200 nits, with an average brightness of 800 nits. The internal folding screen will support a max resolution of 1840×2208, with 123mm x 148mm dimensions.
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 has very similar display specs, with a peak brightness of 1000 nits and an average brightness of 800 nits. There’s a good chance the Pixel Fold will use the same panels featured in the Galaxy Fold 4. And in that case, the display could up all the way till 120Hz, with support for an adaptive refresh rate mode.
According to the code, the camera setup is as follows: back of the phone: IMX787 main, S5K3J1 tele, IMX386 ultrawide. Inner camera is a IMX355 from the Pixel 6 and the outer sensor on the front is another S5K3J1. This is a fairly comprehensive setup, fitting for a premium device.

Developer Kuba Wojciechowski was even able to unearth a few camera specifications of the upcoming Pixel Fold. According to Kuba, the Pixel Fold will feature the 64MP Sony IMX787 as the main sensor, the 10.8MP Samsung S5K3J1 as the telephoto sensor and the IMX386 for the ultrawide sensor. The IMX787 is great news for photography enthusiasts, as it is Sony’s latest flagship sensor, and coupled with Google’s AI processing magic there’s serious potential here.
Google is already laying out the software groundwork for future Foldables in Android, and there were even hints of a Pixel foldable in the Android 13 QPR1 beta codebase. Samsung has done decent software work with their own foldables, but it will be interesting to see Google’s take on it with their own foldables.
Hopefully it will be a fleshed-out experience when it finally launches, as Google’s track record with hardware hasn’t been that great recently, especially with all the software hiccups in the Pixel 6 series.
