Apple Will Switch its Product Lineup to USB-C, Says Apple Executive
At a Wall Street Journal conference in Laguna Beach, California, Vice President of Global Marketing Greg Joswiak said that Apple will have to adhere to the EU’s new regulations by embracing USB-C as the new standard. Products using Lightning ports will eventually be phased out in favour of those with the new interface.
According to Bloomberg, Joswiak said that Apple will abide by the legislation as it does with other rules but deftly chose not to say if the iPhone 15 series, which will debut in 2023, will have a USB-C port. Rumors suggest that the corporation will launch the new port before the EU’s stated time frame expires. However, before switching to the new standard, Apple will probably take use of the time it has left to use the Lightning interface on select products to earn some money through its custom port in royalty payments.
The regulation requiring companies like Apple to stop using any proprietary ports in favour of USB-C has already received final EU approval. Mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, digital cameras, video game consoles, headphones, earbuds, portable loudspeakers, wireless mouse, keyboards, and portable navigation systems will all be subject to new regulations, according to the European Union.
The Council today gave its final approval to the common charger directive. This means that in 2024, a USB-C port will become mandatory for a whole range of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and headphones. It will no longer be necessary to buy a different charger every time you purchase a new mobile phone or similar device: all of them can be recharged using the same charger.”
The iPad 10 is the most recent Apple product to feature the USB-C connector, though it should be noted that the company has not formally discontinued the iPad 9, which comes with the older Lightning port. Apple has gradually shifted to USB-C. Other Apple devices should eventually switch from Lighting to USB-C, completing the transition mandated by the new EU regulation, including AirPods and productivity accessories.
