Upcoming iPhone SE 4 To Resemble the iPhone XR Design On Launch
Apple recently refreshed its iPad lineup with the new iPad 10th Generation and the M2 powered iPad Pro models. The company is also rumored to release the updated fourth generation iPhone SE sometime next year. According to reputed Apple leakster, Jon Prosser, the upcoming iPhone SE will copy the XR’s design.
Apple launched the iPhone SE as its first 5G-capable budget phone less than three weeks ago but is now telling multiple suppliers that it aims to lower production orders by about 2 million to 3 million units for the quarter, citing weaker-than-expected demand, four people told Nikkei Asia
The iPhone SE 3 is possibly the best compact phone you can buy under $500, being powered by the same SoC found in the iPhone 13 (A15 Bionic). And still, the phone has underperformed significantly in sales, and Apple even planned to cut production by 20% from the third quarter.
Obviously, global economic headwinds are partly to blame for lower demand, but another big reason would the SE’s dated design. Apple first introduced the iPhone SE in 2016, and since then the design has largely stayed the same, other than some modest increase in screen size over the generations. The iPhone XR on the other hand looks relatively modern, with a 6.1-inch screen, with a notch cutout on top. This is in the same vein as the 10th generation iPad refresh, which finally got an updated design resembling the iPad Air.

Jon Prosser first revealed this information on the Geared-Up Podcast a few weeks back, and now his latest video confirms that change. Display Analyst Ross Young, and Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have also confirmed separately that the upcoming iPhone SE will feature a 6.1-inch display with a new LCD panel.
The phone’s internals are still unknown, but next year’s iPhone SE 4 could feature the A16 Bionic, given the 3rd-Gen already uses the A15 SoC. Both the iPhone SE 2 and SE 3 started at a similar $399 for the 64GB version. But that might not be the case with the upcoming iPhone SE given the design and internal upgrades. We have also seen that with the iPad 10, which is now priced $120 higher for the 64GB Wi-Fi model compared to last generation.
