Entry Level iPad Gets Biggest Upgrade in Years, Now Featuring A Revamped Design with A14 Bionic Chip And USB-C Port

The new 10-Gen iPad looks way sleeker now

Apple has completely revamped the entry-level iPad with its 10th-gen iteration. The iPad 10 finally comes with a modern design, now resembling the iPad Air. Even the internals have been upgraded, and the new iPads now feature the A14 Bionic chip. Another massive change would be the new USB-C connector, as the Cupertino giant is finally diching its proprietary Lightning port.

The powerful A14 Bionic chip comes to iPad, delivering a 20 percent increase in CPU and 10 percent improvement in graphics over the previous generation. This makes the new iPad up to 5x faster than the best-selling Android tablet,3 and for users looking to upgrade from a device like iPad (7th generation), they will see up to 3x improvement in overall performance with the new iPad

The iPad 10 looks way sleeker now with its flat edges and a bigger 10.9-inch display. Even the panel gets an upgrade, now featuring a Liquid Retina display with 2360×1640-pixel resolution, and 500 nits of max brightness. The new display now also supports the first-generation Apple Pencil.

The front facing camera on the iPad 10 is now located along the landscape edge, and according to Apple this will help people look directly at the camera during video calls or recordings. The 9th-Gen iPad featured an 8MP wide camera at the front, which has now been upgraded to a 12MP Ultra Wide sensor with 122-degree field of view, along with support for Center Stage. Even the rear cameras get an upgrade, with the iPad 10 now featuring a 12MP rear camera with support for 4K video recording.

Users can do even more on iPad with faster wireless connectivity on the go. With new support for Wi-Fi 6, connections are 30 percent faster on the new iPad than the 802.11ac Wi-Fi supported on the previous generation.Cellular models with 5G allow iPad to reach peak speeds of up to 3.5Gbps in ideal conditions,4 providing users seamless access to files, communication with friends, and streaming content from wherever they are.

Pricing and Availability

Apple iPad 10th-Gen with new Magic Keybaord Folio

With all the new upgrades, the starting price of an entry-level iPad has increased with the 10th Generation. The new iPads now start at $449 for the Wifi variant and $599 for the Wifi + Cellular model (for 64GB).

Compared to last year, the price has increased by $120 dollar or so, across the board, as the 9th Gen iPad lineup started at $329. But given the massive upgrades on the new iPad 10, it is still a great deal. According to Apple, the iPad (9th Generation) would remain in the iPad lineup, so the cheaper option will still exist going forward.

The new 10th-Gen iPad lineup is available to order starting today in four colorways (blue, pink, yellow, and silver) at Apple’s official online store, here.  You can also find them on sale in brick-and-mortar stores from October 26th.
