Keith David Chosen as New Voice for Commander Zavala in Destiny Following Lance Reddick’s Passing

In a recent announcement from Bungie, it was revealed that Keith David will be taking over the role of Commander Zavala‘s voice in Destiny. This decision comes after the unfortunate passing of Lance Reddick, who had been the original voice for the character since the game’s beginning.

Lance Reddick passed away at the age of 60 in March 2023 at his home in Los Angeles. To continue the character’s presence in the game, Bungie has made the decision to bring in Keith David as the new voice of Commander Zavala. 

Bungie acknowledged Reddick’s contributions in a blog post, saying,

The passion and professionalism Lance brought to the role over the last decade was unmistakable and loved by all.”

Commander Zavala holds a significant role in the Destiny game’s storyline, having been part of it since the very start. Bungie is committed to maintaining the continuity of the character’s journey, with plans to have Keith David take on the role starting from the upcoming expansion called “The Final Shape.”

It’s important to note that Bungie will not be altering the lines recorded by Lance Reddick, ensuring that his work will still be heard within the game. Keith David, the new voice actor, expressed his intentions regarding the role, saying, 

I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”

As Destiny players await the new expansion, the transition from Reddick’s voice to Keith David’s will be a notable change for the community.
